The Internet kills the thrill of the hunt

Buying stuff online is scary for me.
The only thing I've been comfortable buying online are books, airline tickets and hotel reservations. I've purchased other things, but it wasn't a comfortable experience.
People tell me and I've read about all the good deals on yarn, fabric and knitting needles they find on eBay and Amazon, but I just can't get over my love/need for going to the store, picking what I want and going home with it that day. No shipping charges that way.
Etsy may break me of my brick-and-mortar shopping habits. Most of the stuff on this site can't be found at stores. It's all handmade or vintage.

I somehow got Sean to go fabric shopping with me awhile back (why I didn't buy a lottery ticket that day, I don't know) to see if we could find anything we liked for kitchen and craft-room curtains and to cover the seats of the kitchen chairs.
The kitchen is a gorgeous butter yellow with off-white cabinets. Someday I will replace the hideous Brady Bunch yellow counter top with a butcher block. Because the room is somewhat muted, I really want the curtains' fabric to have a pattern in bold colors. Basically the opposite of the baby blue gingham curtains left by my home's previous owner.
I'd also like to get enough fabric to cover the entire window.

What we found at JoAnn Fabrics were a lot of choices to recapture the look of your grandma's couch.
In comparison, there are so many awesome fabrics on Etsy, I have a hard time choosing which one I want to go with. But I can't touch the fabrics, see what they look like against the light or how they drape. I don't know why, but that bothers me.

This may be a bit kitschy for a craft room, but I like how colorful it is.

I think I might go with this one for my craft room.

Well, I guess it is a definite possible maybe. Why does this feel like a major commitment? I don't have to love, honor and cherish this fabric for as long as I shall live. If I get sick of it I can *shudder* go online and buy something new.

I want to cover furniture or make something with this. I love it. But will I buy it? Probably maybe no.

This should be used to make throw pillows. I'm sure someone else will think of that and save me from buying it and making them myself.

Then there's all the hand-spun yarn. Nothing like the stuff available at the big craft stores.
*Sigh*
I'll probably have to give in.

I totally get the need to buy it yourself at a store. I have this problem with electronics - I have to see it, touch it, and if possible, try it out. Plus, if it is defective, or breaks later on - I have a receipt and actual store to return it to - not so with a purchase made online. I would rather drive an hour to the store then spend 3 minutes on the phone with some void in India trying to tell them how to say my name. There is simply no customer service with online purchases. Let's not forget the actual return process too; now YOU have to spend money to return the thing, and then wait for the credit (3-6 weeks easy) or for a replacement item (6 months to a year, if you're lucky). Forget it - I will buy at the store every chance I get! You are not alone!!
