Cake conqueror

As I was thinking about demolishing the cake yesterday, I had a stroke of genius that had the potential of being a very stupid idea.
The thought of smashing the cake made me rather happy and reminded me of Bakerella's cake balls.
To make cake balls you crumble up cake, combine it with frosting, roll them into balls, freeze them and then cover them in chocolate.
This is a genius way to salvage the useless, ugly cake while taking out some aggression on it.
However, I have tried, and failed horribly, at making these before, which is why trying to convert a failed cake into cake balls could only further exasperate the situation. Instead of the roadkill scene, I was now picturing myself angrily throwing chocolate covered balls of cake at my kitchen walls.
I decided to forge ahead and try - I was not going to be bested by a cake.

The one thing I didn't mess up was the frosting.

That's some good-looking and seriously tasty frosting.
Recalling my last cake-ball foray, I figured not freezing the balls long enough was where I went wrong. This time I let them get nice and hard before dunking them in the melted chocolate.
It worked. Hallelujah.

Chocolate cake with chocolate frosting covered in chocolate is all sorts of awesome.

I've decided to call them "Death By Chocolate Cake Balls."

In a pile, they are "Mount Doom."

I win, cake. I win.

YEAH! Wow I admire you. Being defeated in the kitchen is very hard to take, but you fought a second battle and won. I guess there is something to learn by getting right back on the horse as it were.
